Enery Saving ..

Hi everyone, when glance through the internet I come across the above picture, which show the “green” lamp. Actually what its really mean for and why our government wanted to change all the bulb to energy efficient bulb by 2014? According to The Star news online (18 March, 2010) they have mentioned that by implementing this we can reduce the Carbon emission about 40% by 2020 at the same time the consumer also can save their money. How this works???

An online article on BBC News (3 February, 2006) “Light bulbs: Not such a bright idea”, is a write up about the use of Energy Efficient Light Bulbs. The author has supported the fact that shifting to Energy Efficient bulbs do help for climate change problems. This kind of action should be legalized in order to make the residents to practice. The government also can post tax on the bulbs according to its energy use. This is a good idea. By Legislation and tax, we may change the practice of our population and their attitude towards safe environment.

Not only light bulb need to be changed to reduce CO2 emission and safe energy. Unnecessary use of electrical appliances as such TV, Radio, Fan, Air conditioner, Refrigerator and Heater also can increase the energy use at home. Government should start to emphasis on the above mentioned items too. A lot of us not really understand what is “Energy Saving”, but money saving they understand well. So, we can use money saving concept to safe energy.

There is an article on how we can conserve energy by doing few simple steps. You may review the article at http://www.ecomall.com/greenshopping/20things.htm.

  1. No doubt energy saving light bulb are able to combat climate change by reducing the amount of GHG produced in terms of energy usage. This saving will only be significant if the energy saving light bulb are used in a huge amount. However do we realized that energy saving light bulb actually do more harm to us human beings than to the environment? A quick google search on the heath risk of energy saving light bulb will show you a huge return of all those research carried out on the risk of energy saving. http://www.google.com.my/search?hl=en&q=energy+efficient+light+bulb+health+risk+&btnG=Search&meta=&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=

    There do think carefully on the pros and cons of using energy saving light bulb

  2. Refering to Lim's comment above, is it true that the energy saving light bulb can harm human's health? Then, if this is the case, the authority should banned the usage and selling of these light bulbs. But until now, I still can see lots of these "green" bulbs being sold to customers.

    Some research stated that the usage of eco-bulbs can cause skin cancer because it emits UV radiation which is equivalent to being exposed to direct sunlight during summer. However, this is only true when you are about 2cm far from the eco-bulbs! Plus, only those un-encapsulated bulbs with visible coil emits UV radiation above permissible limit.

    It is also said that the mercury in the eco-bulbs can caused skin cancer. Well, this is only true when you break the eco-bulbs. But eco-bulbs contain less than 10 times the amount of mercury in long-tube fluorescent lamp.

    As long as you stay more than 30cm away from the eco-bulbs, avoid from purchasing eco-bulbs with visible coil, and making sure that the bulbs remain intake, I think using an energy saving light bulb will bring great benefits.

  3. i perefer to write pices of an article that speak about how goverments control electric energy.
    Many governments around the world are beginning to utilise a greenhouse rating scheme for ranking the energy efficiency of office buildings. The Australian government was the first to have taken on the concept by means of the ‘Australian Building Greenhouse Rating’ (ABGR) scheme. The Schemes benefits include;

    Market recognition and a competitive advantage for low greenhouse emitters and energy efficient buildings,
    Encourages best practice in the design, operation and maintenance of commercial buildings to minimise greenhouse emission.

    Hong Kong’s Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) run a similar system titled the ‘Hong Kong Energy Efficiency Registration Scheme for Buildings’. The scheme promotes registration of Building Energy Codes which comprise of lighting, air conditioning, electrical, lift and escalator installations and stipulate the energy requirements of theseinstallations.
